The Dogwood Chorus meets twice each week to practice age-appropriate songs specifically chosen to promote language development. 
Movements, singing games, and word matching activities bring to life new and favorite children songs. 
Performances are optional and will be based on the group’s progress. Information will be coming!

Reading Foundation Skills
Reading Foundation Skills

1. Grade-level phonics and word analysis (long-short vowels, common vowel teams, prefixes/suffixes, irregularly spelled words, syllabication patterns)
2. Read with accuracy and fluency (purpose and understanding, expression, self-correct word recognition)

Speaking and Listening
1. Memorize and recite poems, rhymes, and songs with expression.
2. Create audio recordings of stories or poems to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.

Language Standards
1. Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple meaning words and phrases based on reading and content.
2. Identify real-life connections between words and their use.
3. Sort words into categories.
4. Respond to texts using conversation.

Music Standards
1. Perform simple patterns of pitch.
2. Identify melody and rhythm patterns.
3. Sing with accuracy.
4. Sing songs from memory including from various cultures.
5. Create movements to express pitch, tempo, form, and dynamics to music.
6. Identify similar themes in songs.
